Please support TAMWA in implementing the following activities against:- Gender based violence (GBV) 1. School girl pregnancies Social and educational challenges prevailing in Tanzania force girls to leave school, voluntarily or involuntarily. Some reasons that cause girls to drop out of school include pregnancies and child marriages. The Tanzania Basic Education Statistics book shows that the number of girls who dropped out of primary school in 2005-2009 was 16,991 whilst in secondary schools 49656 girls were forced to leave school in 2009. Failure to finish school undermines the girl child's future development. To combat these issues, TAMWA needs to create awareness through training to journalists to equip them with skills to write and produce programmes that will advocate for better facilities in schools and provisions of hostels for girls, better maternal facilities equipped in hospitals, clinics in the district. Support TAMWA in raising awareness on the school girls and campaigns to promote girl's right to education. TAMWA can do al these activities through trainings, sensitization and advocacy. Maternal mortality Maternal deaths represent 18 percent of all deaths of women age 15-49.The main direct causes of maternal death are haemorrhages, infections, unsafe abortions, hypertensive disorders and obstructed labours. These causes are exacerbated by HIV and malaria, Tanzania's number one killer disease. The fact that more than half of births in Tanzania occur at home also contributes to the elevated maternal mortality rate. Of all pregnant women, only 46 percent are assisted during childbirth by a doctor, clinical officer, nurse, midwife or maternal and child health aide. You can support can be provided to TAMWA by: a.
