In addition, according to the 2010 Demographic Health Survey, incidents of Gender Based Violence increased from 33% previously to 44% in 2010 among women of the age between 15 and 49. As a follow up on the existed situation and interventions made through GEWE II project which was therefore relevant and appropriate.
TAMWA believes that the Survey will contribute to the establishment of the context of Gender Based Violence against women and children in the country. The incidents of GBV in the society include Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), rape, beating, early pregnancy among others which hinder women social and economic development.
The survey was conducted by TAMWA in collaboration with other organizations including TGNP Mtandao, Tanzania Women Lawyers Association (TAWLA), Zanzibar Female Lawyers Association (ZAFELA), Crisis Resolving Center (CRC) which have all been implementing GEWE II project which is supported by Danish Embassy in Tanzania.
